Want Me Less, Please

It’s insanity how many of us
Find not being wanted
More provocative than being wanted

Being rejected and abused
Is far more engaging than
Being accepted and praised

Being accepted and praised is
Annoying and enraging because
It feels like a flat out lie and
We become bent on proving
How wretched and undeserving we are

Rejection feeds the wounded
Part of one’s self-esteem and
Scrapes of the scab to allow
The bleeding to occur all over again
And the repetitiveness of the situation
Makes its it feels… Not good but…
Familiar. Known. Fitting.

Acceptance feels like a treacherous
Monster ready to betray us any second
And bite us where it hurts the most; the
Vulnerable and most tender part of us
